The Corporation / Distant Light

The Enterios Corporation is providing the initial funding for the establishment of the Phaelos III colony, as well as owning the Distant Light, the massive colony ship transporting the colonists. Enterios has funded massive endeavors over its century-and-a-half history, but rarely of such galactic importance or political visibility. As such, the Enterios Board of Directors are watching the colony extremely closely, and the CEO, N. Stormsmith ((Erik Chen)), is accompanying the expedition in person.

Description:
You were never a person of high ambition, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped your rise to prominence. You just want to help people, and help ensure that people are being cared for. You don’t particularly want to be a leader, but when you see someone doing a job poorly that you could easily do so much better, you’re not good at keeping your mouth shut.

You probably would never have gotten this far without A. Valira ((Jez Zarnofsky)), your best friend. The two of you grew up together on Baryos, in the shadow of one of the Titans. Valira has always encouraged you, always pushed you on, and always supported you. You’ve been there for Valira in turn, and your partnership has always been something that kept both of you stable and focused.

You were in medical school when Valira took a job with Enterios, and after graduation, that connection turned into a research position. Since then, you entirely unintentionally began working your way up through the company, helping guide the medical wellness division. You never meant to, but as you encountered incompetence, well… you just couldn’t bear to see a job done poorly. Having Valira there with you pushing you on helped too.

Then everything got very complicated, very quickly. A few years ago, you stumbled on some messages you shouldn’t have seen, and discovered that your immediate supervisor, L. Auberro ((Jules Robins)), was hiding something. There was a massive security exploit in the current design of Enterios Navigator implants, rendering them open for hacking, and for some reason, Auberro was covering it up. As always, Valira was the first person you went to. To your shock, Valira told you to keep it quiet, to stay in line. You were shocked and disappointed, and went to N. Stormsmith ((Erik Chen)), the CEO of the company. Auberro was fired, despite their insistence that they were trying to solve the exploit, not hide it. You were promoted to take Auberro’s place, but your friendship with Valira was shaken to its core.

It also prompted you to take a closer look at some of the things about Enterios you’d always tried to ignore. You couldn’t hide from them any more. You know Enterios does terrible things, forces people into exploitative contracts, and so on, but you don’t have a part in that. You want to find ways to change that from inside the company. So again you find yourself moving up the ranks, especially once Stormsmith took notice of you. Stormsmith has made it clear that they’re considering you as a potential heir to the Presidency.

You don’t want the job, but you know you’d be good at it. You could do immense good for the thousands upon thousands of people employed by Enterios across the galaxy. It would probably destroy you, but wouldn’t it be worth it? The catch--as there always is one--is that Stormsmith is also considering appointing Valira as heir. You want to be happy for your oldest friend, but you can’t help wondering. Is there more Valira’s hiding? Has Valira been corrupted by the same corporate greed that defines so many of your coworkers? After what happened with Auberro, you don’t know if you can trust Valira any more, and that scares you. Would Enterios be better off with Valira in charge? Who knows.

Complicating matters further is O. Vendette ((Austin Clerkin)), a politician with the Colonial Congress. The two of you became involved while you were acting as a liaison between the corporation and the government, and have stayed in touch over the years. Vendette has asked you for a favor--they want you to secretly copy the payroll data from Enterios’ Augments for them, so they can use them to win a major court case for Augment rights in the Congress. It would be a huge win for a wonderful cause, and one you support, but it would require you to betray the trust of your company, and jeopardize your chance at taking it over and making real changes. It’s a huge risk, and one you’re not sure you’re ready for.

The truth is, you don’t want to worry about any of that. You’ve never liked these kinds of dilemmas. You want to just set it all aside, and focus on the task at hand. Stormsmith has put you in charge of the medical and emotional well-being of the Phaelos III colonists. It’s a more hands-on job than you’ve had in a while, and you’re quite happy with that. You’re working with a pair of counselors--W. Ocellus ((Alex Rowland)) and E. Raindrinker ((Sarah Lynne Bowman))--and plan to reach out to the various jumpships, as you know most have at least one medic on board. Together, hopefully all of you can get both a medical station and a counseling station set up, and keep everyone on this colony happy, healthy, and alive.

Light: You care so much about the good in the world, and want to help keep people doing well. You want to support those around you and help make the world a better place.

Dark: You run away from your problems, and don’t know how to deal with situations that aren’t morally clear-cut. You can be flighty and untrusting.
