Stardust Shipping / the Seventeen Hands
The law can never be all things to all people. Sometimes, things have to happen behind the scenes, under the table, and in the shadows. That’s just the way the galaxy works, and all of you know that. Not all of you work for organized crime, but all of you understand the rules of it. Keepings thing clean helps everyone stay free and profitable, and when everyone’s turning a profit, everyone’s happy.
That mostly means giving respect to the big fish--the Seventeen Hands and the Downcity Partnership. The rivalry between the two syndicates has gone on for decades, and isn’t slowing any time soon. On Din Shass, it’s open war from time to time, but when you’re offworld, you keep things clean. You don’t kill in public. You don’t pick fights with Paladins or government officials. You keep things to quiet bribes, favors for friends, and dealing technology that’s maybe not quite legal or licensed.
The Seventeen Hands are making a play for Phaelos III, and while the Partnership is sure to respond, they don’t seem to have yet. Coordinating the efforts from remote is K. Koteiv ((Sharon Underberg)), the Third Hand, with G. Nova ((Nancy Calvert-Warren)), the Eleventh Hand, running the show on the ground. For two of the Hands to be personally involved means serious business, and anyone involved on Phaelos knows it. But of course, the general public doesn’t know the Hands are here, and doesn’t need to. As far as most folk know, you’re here to help Stardust Shipping establish a new trade route, and nothing sketchier than that.

Homeworld: Colonies
Variant: Augment
Character Coach: Evan Torner ([email protected])
Description:
Everyone needs something, and you know everyone. You’ve made your living at it, and you’re good at it. You grew up on out in the Colonies, without much of a way offworld. You took a job with Enterios, and became an Augment, but that didn’t last. You paid attention to the systems, you made connections, and you figured out who to blackmail. It was all about the connections. You got yourself taken out of their system, your contract mysteriously ended early. You were going by C. Quiet at that point, not yet Link. But you took the name Link shortly thereafter, and it stuck.
After all, that’s what it’s all about. Knowing people, and paying attention to who needs what. Over the years, you’ve worked with every major criminal organization. Each owes you favors, debts, money. You stay on everyone’s good side, and everyone comes to you for information sooner or later. You know details, facts, and who to connect to who. It’s a powerful skill. You got yourself invited along on this expedition by the Seventeen Hands, despite your not technically being one of them. But they don’t seem to realize that, and you’re not about to correct them. In fact, the Third Hand, K. Koteiv ((Sharon Underberg)) has asked you to keep tabs on the Eleventh Hand ((Nancy Calvert-Warren)) and report back. The two of them don’t seem to get along, and you’re perfectly happy to play two of the Seventeen Hands against each other.
You don’t have much of a cause of your own, but you’re fascinated by the rise of the Augment rights movement. You’ve spent some time on the station of Augments, out in the dark of space, but you didn’t feel more at home among the Augments. They fascinated you, but you didn’t belong with them. You don’t quite belong anywhere, but that’s alright with you. Generally, you’re content to just sit back and watch the chaos, making connections where you need to.
There are two people who seem to keep drifting into your orbit. H. Journeyman ((Jack Phillips)) and D. Lim Baro ((Hazel Court)) are a pair of… travelers, for lack of a better word. Thieves would be another decent word. Idiots, that works too. Somehow they keep finding you, and bothering you, but you always find a new piece of trouble to get them into, a new odd job or wild goose chase to send them on. They entertain you.
A few years back, you stumbled into a fascinating opportunity, one too interesting to pass up. Over the years, you had quietly amassed a considerable fortune, simply by paying attention and trading in information. Triskele, the biggest rival of the Enterios Corporation, had a private auction of a significant stake in its ownership, and through your connections, you were able to get access to it. So you bought in, and now own almost a quarter of the company. Most of the company has no idea who you are, or what you do, but you move keep things moving behind the scenes.
You also have a member of the Order of Dawn in your pocket. D. Lightshaper (Wil Hal) was a low ranking order member starting a failing charity effort. They were struggling with Ottsalian criminals and a lack of funds. You talked to a few people, and suddenly their organization stopped having problems and they were an important, hot shot member of the Order. You’re not sure how useful it’ll be, but hey, they do owe you for your help, and you can call in a favor or two from them if you need one. I mean, if they don’t, you can let people know that they have worked with criminals in the past...
Perhaps it’s petty, but you enjoy manipulating things against Enterios. They tried to buy your life, and they failed. Now you’re punishing them for it. You’re here to watch this latest venture of theirs fail. You’ve got a pair of spies on the ground--Q. Dreamtangler ((Dave White)) and O. Vendette ((Austin Clerkin)). As far as they’re both aware, you’re just their contact to get any information offworld and back to Triskele. They have no idea you’re calling the shots, and that’s quite alright with you.
Light: You are a mover and shaker. You make things happen! Businesses get started, charities succeed, people find happiness, all because of the things that you do. You know a guy who can make stuff happen, and you use your knowledge to get a lot of stuff done.
Dark: Knowledge is power, and you certainly have a lot of knowledge. You know secrets that can break people, and if you don’t have those secrets yet, you certainly will.

Questions:
- Do you ever torture to get your information, or is honey better than vinegar?
- Do you ever want to brag that you’ve got all of this power, or do you prefer to play more carefully?
- Do you ever give people bad or false information?
- Is there any weird or interesting information you hope to find on Phaelos?
