Stardust Shipping / the Seventeen Hands
The law can never be all things to all people. Sometimes, things have to happen behind the scenes, under the table, and in the shadows. That’s just the way the galaxy works, and all of you know that. Not all of you work for organized crime, but all of you understand the rules of it. Keepings thing clean helps everyone stay free and profitable, and when everyone’s turning a profit, everyone’s happy.
That mostly means giving respect to the big fish--the Seventeen Hands and the Downcity Partnership. The rivalry between the two syndicates has gone on for decades, and isn’t slowing any time soon. On Din Shass, it’s open war from time to time, but when you’re offworld, you keep things clean. You don’t kill in public. You don’t pick fights with Paladins or government officials. You keep things to quiet bribes, favors for friends, and dealing technology that’s maybe not quite legal or licensed.
The Seventeen Hands are making a play for Phaelos III, and while the Partnership is sure to respond, they don’t seem to have yet. Coordinating the efforts from remote is K. Koteiv ((Sharon Underberg)), the Third Hand, with G. Nova ((Nancy Calvert-Warren)), the Eleventh Hand, running the show on the ground. For two of the Hands to be personally involved means serious business, and anyone involved on Phaelos knows it. But of course, the general public doesn’t know the Hands are here, and doesn’t need to. As far as most folk know, you’re here to help Stardust Shipping establish a new trade route, and nothing sketchier than that.

Description:
You are a legitimate businessperson. You get things done, and you are very proud of your company. Stardust Shipping is efficient, effective, and rapidly overtaking its rivals in market share. Of course, most of the money is going towards funding all kinds of illegal things, but, well, that doesn’t delegitimize the company itself. And sure, you’re also a criminal known for your ruthlessness throughout the underground, but you’re also still a businessperson.
You’re good at what you do, and you always have been. You grew up on the streets of Ottsalia, and after a rough run-in with a Paladin of Dawn, stowed away on a ship that dumped you on Din Shass. It was there that you fell in with the Hands, quickly establishing yourself as part of the group, not a target for their attacks.
Before you became one of the Seventeen, you traveled the galaxy for the Hands, recruiting and building connections. You found young wide-eyed kids on places like Zé to use as test fodder for the Hands’ early attempts at making their own Navigators, including A. Hazépa ((Jeremy Gleick)). Hazépa flew for you for a while, but you took a liking to them, and saw their potential for bigger things. So you got them out of their contract a few years early, in return for them owing you a favor. You never called in that favor, but you have hired their ship--the Dancing Crab--to make a few runs for you over the years. You’ve noticed that a member of their crew, P. Kehas ((Caitlin Watts)) doesn’t seem to like you, but, well, that doesn’t bother you much. Lots of people dislike you.
You were the one to really get the ball rolling on Stardust Shipping, which is what earned your promotion to the ranks of the Hands themselves, as the Sixteenth Hand. You brokered a deal with Mos Lara Kan ((Laurie Rich)), a powerful politician in the Galactic League, that helped make sure Stardust was well-positioned to make a name for itself. It was a gamble--Kan could’ve exposed you or had you arrested--but it paid off, and you don’t regret it. No risk, no reward.
Now you’re the one who’s on the verge of making the find of a lifetime. M. Nadir ((Joseph Colton)) has always been inconsistent, but this time their mistake stumbled you into gold. Their piece of junk ship, the Pearl Ambassador, was supposed to be running a routine mission for you, but had to make a blind jump while being pursued by Agerrans. The Ambassador came out of warp at Phaelos, then made their way back to Din Shass from there. You were the one who realized the value of their find, and sold the coordinates to Enterios for a staggering amount of money, bumping you up to the Eleventh Hand.
What Nadir didn’t mention at first was that they were carrying a treasure trove of ancient artifacts, and dumped them in somewhere on Phaelos. That idiot. And courtesy of their madcap blind jump, their Navigator died. So you put them back on the Ambassador, and gave them someone you trust to make sure they made it back to Phaelos in one piece. Z. Veko ((Craig Eisenberger)) was a Navigator years ago, but mostly these days they’re your bodyguard. Veko got the Ambassador back to Phaelos alright, and now you’re going to make sure Nadir gets you those artifacts.
Light: You’re good at what you do, and you take pride in that. As long as people are loyal to you, you’re loyal in return, and are happy to repay favors when reasonable.
Dark: You’re unstoppably ambitious, and have your eyes on Koteiv’s spot next. Koteiv is the Third Hand, and you’re the Eleventh… for now. If you can get your hands on something on this world that’ll make an even bigger impression on the First and Second Hands, you could unseat Koteiv, and put yourself that much closer to the top.

Questions:
- What are your augmentations like? How did you get them? Were you ever a Navigator yourself?
- What is your family like? Did you know your parents?
- How far would you go to get what you want? Do you have any limits?
- Do you believe there are some rules that should never be broken, no matter the circumstances?
- How paranoid are you? Is there anyone you truly trust?
