Stardust Shipping / the Seventeen Hands
The law can never be all things to all people. Sometimes, things have to happen behind the scenes, under the table, and in the shadows. That’s just the way the galaxy works, and all of you know that. Not all of you work for organized crime, but all of you understand the rules of it. Keepings thing clean helps everyone stay free and profitable, and when everyone’s turning a profit, everyone’s happy.
That mostly means giving respect to the big fish--the Seventeen Hands and the Downcity Partnership. The rivalry between the two syndicates has gone on for decades, and isn’t slowing any time soon. On Din Shass, it’s open war from time to time, but when you’re offworld, you keep things clean. You don’t kill in public. You don’t pick fights with Paladins or government officials. You keep things to quiet bribes, favors for friends, and dealing technology that’s maybe not quite legal or licensed.
The Seventeen Hands are making a play for Phaelos III, and while the Partnership is sure to respond, they don’t seem to have yet. Coordinating the efforts from remote is K. Koteiv ((Sharon Underberg)), the Third Hand, with G. Nova ((Nancy Calvert-Warren)), the Eleventh Hand, running the show on the ground. For two of the Hands to be personally involved means serious business, and anyone involved on Phaelos knows it. But of course, the general public doesn’t know the Hands are here, and doesn’t need to. As far as most folk know, you’re here to help Stardust Shipping establish a new trade route, and nothing sketchier than that.

Description:
You’re used to doing what you have to to make ends meet, and that’s not always pretty, or entirely legal. First that meant signing on with the Enterios Corporation, letting them outfit you with cybernetic augmentation and putting you to work as a mechanic. It wasn’t pleasant work, but you did it. You befriended a fellow Augment, J. Bara Ep, while the two of you were on assignment together, but work separated you eventually.
Your opportunity to get out came from E. Spindle ((Blair Fullerton)), who claimed to represent a legitimate organization and bought out the remainder of your contract from Enterios. As it turned out, Spindle actually works for the Downcity Partnership, one of the two most powerful crime syndicates in the galaxy. Spindle put you to work as a bounty hunter and freelancer, which kept you busy and on the move. You saw more of the galaxy than you’d ever expected to.
Spindle also helped you realize a talent you didn’t realize you had: you’re a hell of a spy. You pay attention, you notice details, and you’re great at keeping your mouth shut. So you became a spy for Downcity, doing odd jobs and scouting for them, getting things done in strange places and quietly reporting back. The more time went on, the more independent you became, and eventually you were just working as a freelance bounty hunter, occasionally sending messages back to Downcity.
While out on a job, you developed a rivalry with another bounty hunter--Z. Gorai ((Trista Schulz)). Sometimes it was a playful rivalry, sometimes it was a little more cutthroat. Too many times you wound up on the tail of the same bounty, and too many times Gorai made the catch before you. You got your fair share, though, because you’re good at what you do.
And your latest assignment has the two of you working on the same ship, which is somewhere between hilarious and deeply irritating. Downcity has sent you undercover to join up with the Seventeen Hands, their rival syndicate, to spy. You’ve been flying for a few months aboard the Pearl Ambassador, a piece of junk smuggling ship. The Captain, M. Nadir ((Joseph Colton)) is terrible, but the pay is decent, and Downcity pays you extra for keeping them informed.
As time has gone on, though, you’ve been having doubts. You’re sick of the life of a bounty hunter, and you’re sick of only ever looking out for yourself. You wish you stood for something better--a cause, a goal, a group. You don’t know where you’ll find that, but you’ve got your eyes open. Maybe this new world, Phaelos III, will be the opportunity for change you’ve been waiting for...
Light: You’re a bit of a people person, even if your life hasn’t lined up in such way to make that really possible. You get along well with others, you’re very smart, and you feel like you have a few people you can trust if things go bad. You’re just trying to start a new, better life.
Dark: Life is hard, and it feels like some days, everyone is out to get you. Spying is dangerous work, and you’re never sure if things are going to go wrong and it’s going to be your last day. You need to look out for yourself first and foremost.
Questions:
If you can get out of the spying business, what would you do for a living?
How much do you plan on telling Downcity?
What do you do if you get in over your head?
Have you ever let a bounty go?
Who would you betray to keep yourself safe?

M. Nadir ((Joseph Colton))
