Stardust Shipping / the Seventeen Hands

The law can never be all things to all people. Sometimes, things have to happen behind the scenes, under the table, and in the shadows. That’s just the way the galaxy works, and all of you know that. Not all of you work for organized crime, but all of you understand the rules of it. Keepings thing clean helps everyone stay free and profitable, and when everyone’s turning a profit, everyone’s happy.

That mostly means giving respect to the big fish--the Seventeen Hands and the Downcity Partnership. The rivalry between the two syndicates has gone on for decades, and isn’t slowing any time soon. On Din Shass, it’s open war from time to time, but when you’re offworld, you keep things clean. You don’t kill in public. You don’t pick fights with Paladins or government officials. You keep things to quiet bribes, favors for friends, and dealing technology that’s maybe not quite legal or licensed.

The Seventeen Hands are making a play for Phaelos III, and while the Partnership is sure to respond, they don’t seem to have yet. Coordinating the efforts from remote is K. Koteiv ((Sharon Underberg)), the Third Hand, with G. Nova ((Nancy Calvert-Warren)), the Eleventh Hand, running the show on the ground. For two of the Hands to be personally involved means serious business, and anyone involved on Phaelos knows it. But of course, the general public doesn’t know the Hands are here, and doesn’t need to. As far as most folk know, you’re here to help Stardust Shipping establish a new trade route, and nothing sketchier than that.

Name: Q. Dreamtangler
Group: Seventeen Hands
Homeworld: Ottsalia

Variant: Evo
Character Coach: Kitty O'Leary ([email protected])
Description:
You’ve never felt at home in the world of humans. You grew up on the wild edges of the Ottsalian jungle, where nature constantly evolves, and death is a moment of hesitation away. You embraced that idea, that stagnation is death and constant change is the only way to survive in the world. So many humans spend so much time trying to cling to what they have, prevent change, but you go against that.

Praying to the wild doesn’t pay the bills, though. But you knew the wild like no one else, and you were willing to kill to not be killed. So you worked as a big game hunter, partnering with a fellow Ottsalian named M. Nadir ((Joseph Colton)). The two of you would lead expeditions out in the jungle, mostly for corporate bigwigs who wanted some exciting danger in their lives. It was a messy gig, and sometimes bloody, but it paid good money.

Your little operation got shut down when the CEO of Triskele got eaten by a plant, despite having been told a dozen times not to poke it. Triskele tried to sue both of you. Nadir went offworld to get away from the corporate lawyers. You went out into the wild, into the places where humans dare not tread. For a year, you lived alone, just you and the beasts and the plants. Out there, with everything trying to kill you, you had a revelation. Nature wasn’t just a collection of creatures--it was all one being, one vast and incomprehensible being, a god.

The wild is your god now, a great god of impermanence and unrestrained growth. The more time you spent out there, the more you realized how much humanity goes against the wishes and dreams of the wild. Humans are slow, humans consume, humans destroy. In the end, you know humans will destroy themselves, just as they did thousands of years ago. It’s all part of the great cycle of nature.

You’re happy to do what you can along the way to encourage humanity down its path of destruction. That takes lots of strange forms. Mostly you travel the spacelanes, taking odd jobs, working as a bounty hunter, and sowing chaos wherever you wind up. Your latest job sees you working as a spy for, of all people, Triskele, the corporation whose CEO you watched get eaten. The world has come full circle, as it always does, sooner or later.

Triskele has you spying on Stardust Shipping, one of their rival shipping corporations. You’re working aboard the Pearl Ambassador, a ship captained by your old partner Nadir. It’s strange work, but it’s nice to be working with Nadir again. Stardust, of course, isn’t legit--they’re a front for the Seventeen Hands. You might tell your bosses at Triskele that, if you feel like it. You’re supposed to communicate through C. Link ((Daniel Dziubinski)), another Triskele operative who occasionally relays orders to you.

As it happens, this whole expedition is being overseen by the Enterios Corporation, Triskele’s direct rival. They’ve asked you to try to get close to the Enterios representatives, and see what you can learn. You’re happy to do that, but as for what information you report back… well, you’ll have to see if you can figure out what answers will cause the most chaos. Corporations, after all, are the clearest, grandest expression of all that’s wrong with humanity. If you could somehow bring down two of the biggest at once… well, surely that would do your wild god proud.

Light: You’re extremely knowledgeable when it comes to strange and dangerous territories. You can survive pretty much anywhere. You are one with the wild that consumes the galaxy.
Dark: The world needs to go back to a more natural order. Everything needs to come down. Civilization needs to be reduced to rubble so that the jungle can grow wild and free once again.
Questions:

  1. How far are you willing to go to help the wild reign supreme?
  2. What did you learn in the jungle?
  3. Do you prefer fight or flight?
  4. Are you going to speed up the end of humanity, or let it take its natural course?
