The Order of Dawn

Every good colony needs people to take care of its people, and look out for the wellbeing of the group. That’s where you come in. You’ve come with the first group of settlers to Phaelos III, and are eager to help establish and build. You’re a mix of Paladins and Pilgrims, but you don’t let that divide you. The official organizers of the colony haven’t been great about giving you space to set up, or a proper building (or even really rooms on the colony ship to organize), but that hasn’t deterred you. The people of Phaelos III will need your help, and need your support, and you’re more than happy to provide it.

Of course, it helps that Phaelos has a rumored history of numerous ancient sites and artifacts. Many of you have a significant interest in uncovering that history, and seek deeper understandings of the ancients. Hopefully your time on Phaelos will provide you with the answers you seek, in one form or another.

Homeworld: Agerre
Variant: Innate

Description: Life is not easy on Agerre. Resources are few and far between, there is little luxury. Childhood was simple. Wake up, do the mandatory chores, go to school, use as little water as possible, make it home, do the evening chores, and then sleep. That is, until you found that you could clean your room with a few thoughts. If you just focused on the changes that needed to be made, they happened. Your bed would make itself, the dust would flee into the trash. Slowly you learned how to push and pull objects with your thoughts. You were trying to levitate your pillow when your father walked into your room. You were so excited to show him what you could do, but he looked at you with fear and contempt. Your parents spent the evening arguing in hushed voices. Your father forbid you from using your “freakish” abilities ever again.

The next few years at home were strained. As soon as you were of age, you signed up for the military, just to get away from home. As a soldier, no one knew your secret. You felt like you were a part of something bigger than yourself.

Then the War started. You used your powers to protect yourself and your squadron. They kept showering you in medals and accolades, so you kept on fighting. You kept using your powers. Eventually someone in high command caught on, but instead of getting reprimanded or executed, you were offered a job. You trained with a squadron of Innates under Admiral Therra, working on developing and honing your gifts to use to protect and serve Agerre. You could finally be all you could be and more for your home. You felt accepted, truly accepted for the first time.

Then came the end of the war. You, along with K. Aigo ((Robert Prag)) and several other Innates, were tasked with using an Ancient device to shut down Gyr’s key factories and military centers. The ship flew into orbit around Gyr, and all of the telekind tangled their minds into the device. It hummed, and sung sweet whispers into your mind, and you directed it down towards the planet. Together you reached out, reaching into planet’s volcanoes. But the deviced pulled you further down, down, deep into the dark crystalline core of Gyr. You saw flashes, horrifying visions of fire and pain as you struggled with the device, trying to break free from its grasp. You felt yourself burning alive, covered in tar and molten glass. When you came to, you could barely move. Gyr had been destroyed. With time, you got better, but not everyone was as lucky. A lot of your fellow psychics perished, the device overloaded their minds.

While Admiral Therra went on trial for treason, you went into hiding. Psychic ability was now outlawed throughout the galaxy. You were no longer welcome anywhere. You eventually found yourself at a temple of the Order of Dawn, trying to find temporary shelter. The Order quickly became a new home to you. In an attempt to atone for your past, you took up the cause of the Order, and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. Eventually, you heard of D. Lightshaper’s efforts helping the forgotten orphans of Ottsalia and travelled there to help them. You developed a close bond and eventually you confided in them your deepest secret. You let them know you helped with the device that destroyed Gyr. Sometimes you two discuss it, but they know it is your burden to bear.

D. Lightshaper invited you to go with them to Phaelos III, suggesting it might help with your atonement process. There are plans to try and set up a new morning shrine, or potentially set up an exchange of ideas among the many cultures. You go to Phaelos, hoping to find a cause you can take up on your new home and to seek forgiveness for the things you have done.

Light: You want to find a cause that can benefit others and help make Phaelos III a better home to all. You seek to atone for the things that you have done, hoping to find forgiveness in the stars.
Dark: What happens when there is no forgiveness to be found? When you apologize and they say no? You were once a career soldier and a trained killer, but you have done so hard for others. Why can’t they accept you?

Relationships:
D. Lightshaper (Wil Hal)
K. Aigo (Rob Prag)

Questions:
Who can you even ask for forgiveness for what you did?
What did you really see when your mind went into the device?
What happens if no one will forgive you?
Do you want people to know what you did?
